At Keir Projects, the strength of our work starts with the strength of our people.

The quality of what we build, the safety of our sites, and the culture we carry all come down to having a team that feels confident, supported, and well trained. That is why investing in skills, safety, and leadership is a core part of how we operate.

Construction environments are rarely predictable, especially when working in remote locations, around water, or at height. To make sure our team is prepared, we regularly bring training directly onto site or take the team to training sites to get the skills they need to feel confident in all situations.

Recently, we had Scott from Peak Safety Ltd on-site to deliver an Outdoor First Aid course designed specifically for the environments we work in. The session was hands-on and practical, focused on responding calmly and effectively in real emergency situations.

Unlike office-based workplaces where medical help is usually close by, many of our projects take place in remote areas. That means our team needs the skills to act quickly and confidently when the unexpected happens.

Scott and the team at Peak Safety took the time to understand the unique challenges of the locations we work in –

from difficult access to variable terrain and weather conditions. They tailored the training to those realities, equipping us with the knowledge and confidence to handle any situation until help arrives or we can get a crew member to safety.

The course reinforced a value we hold strongly at Keir Projects: looking out for one another. When our crew feels prepared, they work with greater awareness, confidence, and care — qualities that make all the difference on every job.

Some of our projects call for specialist skills — especially when the work takes us off the ground. Recently, members of the Keir Projects team have been upskilling through industrial rope access training with Russ at Peak Safety Ltd in Rotorua.

Working at height demands precision, trust, and a strong understanding of safe systems and shared responsibility. The training covered rope access setup, rescue and self-rescue techniques, and teamwork — building not just technical skill, but confidence and accountability.

These capabilities are essential across many of our projects, from installing structural components to carrying out maintenance or inspections where safety margins matter most. By continuing to train and refine our approach, we’re ensuring our crew are equipped to work safely, efficiently, and with complete confidence at any height.

Technical skills are only one part of a strong team. Leadership, focus, and resilience matter just as much. This year, our crew took part in a session with Brad Hook from The Resilience Institute, exploring practical tools for managing pressure and staying effective in demanding environments.

The session encouraged clear thinking, personal awareness, and better communication on site. At Keir Projects, leadership is not about job titles. It is about taking ownership, supporting others, and setting the standard through actions.

Every training opportunity strengthens our team and the work we deliver. By continuing to learn and grow together, we create safer sites, stronger leadership, and better outcomes for every project.

At Keir Projects, building capability means building better, through people who are skilled, confident, and proud of what they do.
