Our job included design input, supply, and construction of an improved viewing platform and structures along the walkway, along with re grading and metaling to create a more user-friendly experience. We partnered with Graymatter to create a walkway that met the client’s vision and budget.

The project tested Keir Project’s problem-solving skills. The sensitive environment needed careful planning. Weight limits for gear and narrow access paths made us think creatively. Our team handled all tasks themselves.

We used special piling methods to keep our footprint to minimum without harming the environment. Helicopters were used to transport aggregate and materials to locations along the walkway. Timber structures were built to last and provide safe access for visitors.

Working over water was tricky, requiring extra safety measures and clever building methods. Our experience in practical design helped us spot and solve problems before they became issues.

The entire Keir Projects team brought their skills to various parts of the project, from planning to finishing touches.

We’re proud to have improved access to view one of New Zealand’s natural treasures while helping protect it.

The project showcased our expertise in planning logistics, technical piling, working in sensitive environments, exposed concrete work, timber structures, working over water, constructability in design, and installing street furniture.

Full walkway opening mid-April.
