Keir Projects recently completed the construction of a new 135-metre-long, 4.5-metre-wide boardwalk and cycleway along Duke Street in Cambridge.

The project enhances connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, linking existing pathways and improving safety within the local transport network.
Working alongside Camex Civil, who led the civil works, our team took on the structural component of the project – a complex build that required precision, planning, and strong collaboration from start to finish.
The project involved installing 180 drilled and concreted piles to support the new boardwalk structure. Built from a combination of timber, steel, concrete, and FRP, every element needed to integrate seamlessly to deliver both strength and aesthetic consistency.
Safety and quality were key priorities throughout. Working at height meant scaffolding was installed to provide secure access, and strict site controls ensured public safety in a busy area with limited space. Despite challenging conditions, the team delivered a structure designed to stand up to heavy public use and the elements.
The Duke Street project was a demanding site with steep terrain, tight access, and a network of live and old services that made drilling and installation particularly complex. With pile depths reaching up to seven metres, accuracy and coordination from the team were critical.
Careful planning kept the project on track despite the tight timeframe. The Keir Projects crew worked alongside Camex and collaborated with Base Civil to move deep drainage services along with managing scheduling, safety, and communication on-site. Every stage was approached with the same attention to detail that defines how we work at Keir Projects.
The finished boardwalk is a durable, high-quality addition to Cambridge’s infrastructure, offering a safe and scenic route for locals and visitors alike. It’s a project that showcases what’s possible when strong planning, teamwork, and technical skill come together; and another example of how Keir Projects help to build better connections in our communities.
